The vegetarian restaurants in Boston that we’ve verified number nine: five fully vegan, two fully vegetarian, and two that serve meat but cook deep vegetarian menus. All nine are independents. They sit across Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington, and Quincy, so pick your neighborhood first and your restaurant second.

Our editors checked open status and menus on eight of the nine profiles in September 2026, and on Zhu in June. Confirm hours before you go.
Vegetarian restaurants in Boston by tier
- 100% vegan (5): My Thai Vegan Cafe and Rhythm ’N Wraps in Boston, Koshari Mama in Somerville, Zhu in Arlington, and Garden Patch by the Sea in Quincy.

Boston proper: Chinatown, Kenmore, and Allston
Three of the nine sit in the city itself, spread from Chinatown west to Allston.
In Chinatown, My Thai Vegan Cafe is up a flight of stairs above Pho Pasteur on Beach Street. The whole menu is vegan Thai, and the cafe has been open since 2008. Order the pumpkin curry, or the pad see ew with tofu or mock meat. The tofu chicken fingers are a regular favorite, and the boba milk tea comes on a non-dairy base. Ask before you order if you’re gluten-sensitive, because some noodle and sauce bases may carry wheat. You can eat until 10 p.m. most nights and 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, which helps in a neighborhood where many kitchens close early.
In Kenmore Square, India Quality serves meat, but its menu marks every vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dish. The Vegetable Specialties section runs about twenty dishes, mostly $13.95 to $15.95. Try the Baingan Bhartha or the Saag Paneer. Bring a table that mixes meat eaters and vegetarians.
Out on Commonwealth Avenue in Allston, Rhythm ’N Wraps started as a food truck in 2012 and opened its storefront in 2018. Everything is vegan, built on seitan, jackfruit, and oyster mushrooms. Every wrap costs $12. Start with the Gangsta Wrap, smoked apple sage seitan in a jerk hoisin sauce. The Philly Cheesesteak costs $18 and stacks Impossible meat and seitan on a hoagie. Weekend brunch runs until 4 p.m. Closed Mondays.
Cambridge: Central and Harvard Squares
Veggie Galaxy is a fully vegetarian diner in Central Square, and VegNews named it Best Vegan-Friendly Restaurant in America in its 2026 awards. You can order breakfast all day, and the kitchen will make most dishes vegan on request. Get the double beet lentil burger or the mac and stack. Expect a line on weekend mornings, because small parties can’t book ahead.
Up Massachusetts Avenue, Nirvana serves tandoori meat next to a deep vegetable menu. The masala dosa, saag paneer, and dal makhani each make a full meal. A handful of dishes, like the vegetable samosas and tofu do piaza, carry a Vegan label. Nothing carries a vegetarian label, so ask your server about the rest. One tandoor and one prep line handle the meat and the vegetables alike.
Somerville: Somerville Avenue
Two of the nine sit a short walk apart on Somerville Avenue.
Veggie Crust is a fully vegetarian pizzeria with Indian-inspired pies, such as the paneer tikka barbecue. You choose dairy mozzarella or the house vegan cheese. Every dish is kosher under KVH supervision. Pizzas run $12 to $20. Closed Mondays.
Koshari Mama cooks fully vegan Egyptian food. Order the namesake koshari, a $14 bowl of rice, lentils, and pasta under crispy onions and tomato sauce. Feeding a group? Get the Mama’s Mezza Platter. Koshari Mama opens Wednesday through Sunday only.
Beyond the core: Arlington and Quincy
Two vegan restaurants are worth the trip out of the city. Zhu in Arlington Center has cooked Pan-Asian vegan food since 2015. Regulars order the citrus soy protein and the General Tso’s soy protein. Lunch specials run about $13, against $17 to $19 for dinner mains. Zhu holds a kosher certification, and the cooks can make many dishes gluten-free. Book on OpenTable for a weekend night, because the room is small.
Garden Patch by the Sea sits on Wollaston Beach in Quincy and runs a vegan take on a seafood shack. The lobster roll uses hearts of palm, and the menu adds vegan fish and chips, clam strips, and crab cakes. The owners close for winter, typically starting in November, and the restaurant closes Mondays. Call before you go this late in the year.
What to know before you go
- Check the day. Rhythm ‘N Wraps, Veggie Crust, Koshari Mama, and Garden Patch all close Mondays, and Koshari Mama closes Tuesdays too.
- Cross-contact varies. Seven of the nine have meat-free kitchens. At India Quality and Nirvana, assume vegetarian dishes share ovens and prep space with meat.
- Vegans have an easy time. Five restaurants are fully vegan, and Veggie Galaxy and Veggie Crust both offer full vegan options.
- Call ahead on hours. Owners of independent restaurants change hours often, and Garden Patch closes for winter. You can check Garden Patch’s site and Veggie Galaxy’s site before you go.
Boston vegetarian and vegan FAQ
Where to start
Want a classic diner breakfast? Go to Veggie Galaxy, but get there early on weekends. For a table that mixes meat eaters and vegetarians, book India Quality in Kenmore Square. Late in Chinatown? My Thai Vegan Cafe serves until 10 p.m. or later. Koshari Mama’s $14 koshari bowl is one of the best-value plates on this list. And if you want a beach day, Garden Patch by the Sea is the one to catch before it closes for winter.
Where the map is thin
Nine is a start. We have nothing yet in Brookline, Jamaica Plain, or the North End, or north of the city in Medford and Malden. We add a place only after we confirm it’s open and check what a vegetarian can order. That takes time, so the list grows slowly.
