What’s Vegetarian at Logan’s Roadhouse? (Updated for 2026)

Looking for Logan’s Roadhouse vegetarian options? Build your plate around the Vegetable Plate, a modified Anything & Everything Salad, and a loaded baked potato. You’ll leave full. A steakhouse chain isn’t the first place you’d send a vegetarian. But Logan’s Roadhouse has enough real salads, sides, and scratch-made dishes to work once you know which ones hide butter, bacon fat, or anchovy. We track which chains actually pull this off, and Logan’s clears the bar with a little planning.

A Quick Look at Logan’s Roadhouse

Dave Wachtel and Charles F. McWhorter opened the first Logan’s Roadhouse in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1991. They built the brand around wood-grilled steaks, made-from-scratch yeast rolls, and a roadhouse feel borrowed from honky-tonks more than fine dining. Cracker Barrel bought the chain in 1999, then sold it in 2006 to a group of private equity firms. Ownership changed hands twice more, landing with CraftWorks Restaurants & Breweries in 2018. The chain still cooks its steaks over a mesquite wood grill, the same mesquite flavor the menu leans on for its grilled chicken and salmon too. CraftWorks filed for bankruptcy in March 2020. A few months later, SPB Hospitality picked up Logan’s Roadhouse out of that filing for $93 million. Today the chain runs about 135 restaurants across 22 states, concentrated in the South and Midwest.

The chain’s signature move used to be free roasted peanuts in the shell, with the shells swept onto the floor as part of the atmosphere, a bit borrowed from rivals like Texas Roadhouse. That’s changed. Slip-and-fall lawsuits and peanut allergy concerns pushed many locations to bag the peanuts or serve them only by request. Don’t count on shells crunching underfoot at every store. Some locations now set a bucket on the table for shells instead. Ask the server what your location still does.

Logan’s Roadhouse has been through the restaurant-industry wringer more than once. The 2016 Chapter 11 filing closed 18 underperforming stores and cut roughly $300 million in debt. The pandemic hit harder. Parent company CraftWorks filed for bankruptcy in March 2020, and every Logan’s location closed for a stretch that same month before SPB Hospitality bought the brand and reopened it. SPB’s other brands include Krystal and J. Alexander’s, which gives Logan’s Roadhouse some corporate stability it didn’t have under its previous private-equity owners. Fresh-cut steaks and a scratch kitchen remain the pitch to diners who could just as easily drive to a national chain grill down the street.

Salads and the Vegetable Plate

The Vegetable Plate is the closest thing to a built-for-you vegetarian meal on this menu. You pick four sides plus a house salad or soup of the day. Sauteed mushrooms, a baked sweet potato, steamed broccoli, and mashed potatoes with a garden salad make a full dinner with zero substitutions needed. The Anything & Everything Salad strips down well too. Ask for it modified, without the grilled chicken, hard-boiled egg, bacon bits, and cheese. What’s left, romaine, walnuts, cranberries, and tomatoes, holds up fine as an entree salad with a vinaigrette on top.

Sides and Appetizers

Sides are where a Logan’s Roadhouse vegetarian meal actually comes together. Mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, a loaded baked potato, cinnamon apples, and sauteed mushrooms all skip the meat. Most of them lean on real butter and cheese, though, so they’re vegetarian, not vegan. On the appetizer side, mozzarella sticks, fried pickles, French fries, onion rings, chips and queso, and the battered Roadhouse Shrooms are all meat-free dishes. They come out of the same fryer as the breaded chicken tenders and wings, so tell your server if cross-contact matters to you.

Soups

Soup of the day rotates by location, so ask before you order if you want to stay vegetarian. The loaded baked potato soup and the chili both typically contain meat or a meat-based stock. Don’t assume either one is safe without checking with your server first. A steak-and-vegetable soup and a chicken and sausage gumbo also rotate through some locations. Both are built on meat stock, so they’re out for vegetarians even though the names don’t always make that obvious at a glance.

Desserts and the Kids’ Menu

Dessert is one of the few spots where Logan’s Roadhouse doesn’t make you negotiate. The carrot cake, margarita cheesecake, and Mississippi brownie are all vegetarian, built on egg, dairy, and wheat rather than gelatin or animal fat, according to the chain’s published ingredients list. None are vegan. If you’re feeding a vegetarian kid, the Jr. Grilled Cheese and Jr. Kraft Mac & Cheese from the kids’ menu both work, and the Jr. Sides list includes mashed potatoes, cinnamon apples, broccoli, and rice pilaf.

What’s Vegan at Logan’s Roadhouse?

Vegan options at Logan’s Roadhouse take real customizing, but they exist. This isn’t a chain built for vegan food, and the staff may need a minute to walk through substitutions with you. We suggest asking early, since a vegan-friendly plate here means swapping out non-vegan defaults on several sides at once, not just picking one dish off the menu. Start with the Anything & Everything Salad stripped of chicken, egg, bacon, and cheese, dressed with balsamic vinaigrette instead of anything creamy. Add a plain baked potato with no butter or sour cream. A grilled vegetable or mushroom skewer ordered dry, plus steamed broccoli or corn with no butter, rounds out the plate. The Vegetable Plate works the same way as long as you pick non-dairy sides and tell the kitchen to hold the butter across the board. Nothing on the menu is labeled vegan, so plan on asking for substitutions every time.

Special Dietary Requirements and Allergies

Logan’s Roadhouse publishes an allergen menu and a separate nutritional guide covering egg, fish, milk, soy, wheat, gluten, shellfish, tree nuts, and peanuts. The company states outright that its kitchens aren’t allergen-free or gluten-free. A few catches matter most for vegetarians. The Caesar dressing contains fish (anchovy). Green beans are commonly cooked with bacon at Southern-style roadhouse chains like this one. Rice pilaf, sometimes listed as Roadhouse Rice, may be simmered in chicken stock, and most fried sides share a fryer with breaded chicken. If any of this is a dealbreaker, ask the server before you order rather than after the food arrives. The whipped butter served with the yeast rolls contains dairy and egg, so it’s vegetarian but not vegan. If you need a gluten-restricted meal, ask for the separate gluten-friendly menu, since the kitchen can’t guarantee zero cross-contact even from that list. Peanuts still show up tableside at some locations, which matters if you’re managing an allergy and not just a preference.

Tips for Vegetarians at Logan’s Roadhouse

  • Order the Vegetable Plate and pick four sides plus a salad or soup. It’s the easiest way to build a full meal here.
  • Ask for the Anything & Everything Salad without chicken, egg, and bacon for an entree-sized salad instead of a starter.
  • Skip the Caesar dressing if you avoid fish. Balsamic vinaigrette or ranch are safer swaps.
  • Confirm whether the green beans are cooked with bacon before you order them. At most roadhouse-style chains, they are.
  • Request sides “no butter” if you’re keeping the meal vegan. Almost everything gets brushed or tossed in it by default.
  • Check whether fried appetizers come out of a dedicated fryer or one shared with breaded chicken.
  • Ask your server which peanut policy your specific location follows. It varies store to store now.

Conclusion

Logan’s Roadhouse vegetarian options won’t rival a plant-forward restaurant. But a steakhouse chain built around wood-grilled beef gives you more to work with than you’d guess. Build your plate around the Vegetable Plate or a modified Anything & Everything Salad. Ask about the green beans and the Caesar dressing before you order, and you’ll leave full instead of picking at a side salad.
