Newk’s Eatery: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Newk’s Eatery builds its menu around scratch-made soups, salads, sandwiches, and pizzas, and a good chunk of it is meat-free by design. That gives vegetarians more genuine choices here than at most fast-casual chains, spread across every section of the menu rather than crammed into one corner. A nice bonus: Newk’s skips deep fryers and microwaves entirely, which cuts the usual shared-fryer cross-contact risk.

What to order at Newk’s Eatery

The Veggie Club sandwich, built with portobello, roasted peppers, pesto, and goat cheese, and the Farmer’s Market sandwich, with portobello, squash, zucchini, and Gouda, are both real standouts. The Margherita and Portabella Veggie pizzas go vegan without the cheese, and the Garden and Greek salads work the same way without croutons or feta. Tomato Basil and Spinach and Feta soups are both vegetarian, built on cream and cheese, and Tippah County Caviar, a black-eyed pea relish, is vegan as served.

What to watch out for

Grilled Vegetable soup gets called vegan by a few third-party guides, but Newk’s hasn’t published its stock base, and soups rotate daily by location, so ask before ordering if strict vegan status matters to you. Skip the Loaded Potato soup entirely, it’s built with bacon. The Rotini Pasta Salad and Five Cheese Mac and Cheese are vegetarian but not vegan, thanks to egg and dairy. Caesar dressing here skips the anchovy, unusual for the category, but still carries egg and milk.
