The Halal Guys: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

The Halal Guys built falafel into the menu from day one, so vegetarians and vegans get a real dedicated platter, not just modified sides. Falafel has been the meat-free anchor since the original food cart pivoted from hot dogs in 1992, and it’s made from ground chickpeas, onions, parsley, and spices rather than a newer plant-based substitute. There’s no formal vegetarian marking system, but the menu is short enough that you don’t need one.

What to order at The Halal Guys

The Falafel Sandwich and the Falafel Platter over rice are the core vegetarian orders, and both go fully vegan once you skip the white sauce. Hummus and baba ganoush make solid vegan sides, and a plain falafel order or plain pita bread work well alongside them. French fries round out the platter, and the lettuce and tomato salad base covers the produce side of the plate.

What to watch out for

The white sauce is the one thing to ask about by name, since it’s the default topping and not vegan. Don’t expect extra toppings like green peppers, olives, or jalapenos, since The Halal Guys keeps the produce list to lettuce and tomato. The fries share oil with the chicken and beef gyro, so ask about that if cross-contact with meat is a concern, and there’s still no Beyond or Impossible product on the US menu as of 2026.
