Smoothie King: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Smoothie King is one of the simplest chains to eat vegetarian at, because the whole menu is built around blended fruit. The real question isn’t whether you can eat here. It’s which blends are also vegan, and that comes down to the protein powder, the milk base, and whether honey is involved.

What to order at Smoothie King

The juice-based classics are the easiest order. Caribbean Way, Pineapple Surf, Island Impact, and Lemon Twist Strawberry all build on real fruit-juice blends like the Papaya Juice Blend and Apple Pineapple Juice Blend, with no dairy or honey involved. If you want protein added, ask for the Sunwarrior Organic Plant-Based Protein instead of the standard whey blends, and pair it with Califia Farms almond or oat milk to keep the whole smoothie vegan.

What to watch out for

The default protein lineup, the Nutrient Blend, Protein Blend, Keto Protein, Hulk Blend, Lean1, and the Gladiator proteins, are all whey-based, so they’re fine for vegetarians but not vegan. Watch for honey in a few sweeteners too. The collagen boost is the one enhancer to skip outright, since it’s animal-derived and off-limits for vegetarians and vegans alike. Most of the vitamin, fiber, immune, and energy enhancers are plant-based too, so you can add one without worrying, as long as you skip the collagen. Get the protein, milk, and honey right, and most of the menu opens up.
