Sbarro: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Sbarro gives vegetarians more to work with than a mall pizza counter suggests. The NY Cheese and Veggie pizzas, the baked ziti, and the spaghetti with marinara all skip the meat, and the pizza dough and marinara are vegan on their own.

What to order at Sbarro

The NY Cheese pizza is the classic foldable slice, just dough, tomato sauce, and mozzarella, while the 4 Cheese White skips the red sauce for a richer cheese blend. The Veggie pizza piles on green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and black olives over that same base. If you want something heartier, the Baked Ziti and Spaghetti with marinara, hold the meatballs, both work, and the Garden Salad and Tomato and Cucumber Salad are vegan with Italian dressing. For a fully vegan slice, ask for a cheeseless veggie pizza built with your own toppings.

What to watch out for

The Caesar Salad carries anchovy dressing, so skip it unless you ask for a swap. Breadsticks are vegetarian but made with butter, and the veggie or yellow rice is cooked with butter too, which rules both out for vegans. Desserts like cheesecake, tiramisu, and cannoli are vegetarian but built on dairy and eggs. None of this requires special requests at the counter since the vegetarian pizzas and pasta sit on the regular menu, but if you’re strict about cheese rennet, that’s worth a quick question before you order.
