QuikTrip: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

QuikTrip isn’t a vegetarian chain, but the QT Kitchens counter cooks a handful of real meatless meals to order, so you can skip the roller grill entirely and still eat well. QT Kitchens launched in 2012 and now cooks hot, made-to-order food behind the counter instead of just spinning hot dogs on a roller grill, and that shift is what makes a real vegetarian meal possible here.

What to order at QuikTrip

Cheese Pizza is the standout, a personal or extra-large pie topped with mozzarella on a tomato base with no meat. Mac & Cheese and Grilled Cheese both come hot off the QT Kitchens line, and the toasted croissant works for a quick breakfast if you skip the meat versions. Soft Pretzels cover the snack slot, and the coolers carry Fruit Cups and Sabra Hummus & Pretzels, both confirmed vegan.

What to watch out for

The Breakfast Pizza and the Roller Grill, with its taquitos and hot dogs, are both off the table for vegetarians. Cheese Pizza, Mac & Cheese, Grilled Cheese, and the Parmesan Soft Pretzel all carry dairy, which rules out vegan. The Classic Salted and Cinnamon Sugar pretzels get a butter brush, so confirm before assuming they’re vegan. QuikShakes rely on dairy too, and fountain slushies vary by flavor, so check the machine before you pour one. Read the sign at the counter for the day’s fountain flavors, since not every syrup is confirmed vegan.
