Menchie’s: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Menchie’s is one of the easiest stops on this site if you’re vegetarian. Every frozen yogurt flavor, dairy-based or dairy-free, starts meat-free, so you can scoop from any handle on the wall without checking a thing. Vegans get real options here too, not just an afterthought.

What to order at Menchie’s

Any classic dairy soft-serve flavor, from Creamy Country Vanilla to Toasty Marshmallow, works for vegetarians. If you want vegan, head for the sorbet flavors like Blue Raspberry, Cherry Cola, and Blueberry Lemonade, or check whether the rotating vegan soft-serve is running that day. Menchie’s pours flavors like Oatly Vanilla, almond-milk Cake Batter, and coconut-milk Pineapple Coconut when it’s in stock. On the toppings bar, fresh fruit, Oreo cookie pieces, and Sour Patch Kids are all vegan and easy add-ons.

What to watch out for

The toppings bar is where the real decisions happen. Mini marshmallows are made with gelatin and aren’t vegetarian at all, and classic gummy bears are worth a second look since most brands use gelatin too. Marshmallow sauce and the waffle cone or cup both contain egg, so vegans should pass on those. Because the vegan soft-serve flavor rotates and isn’t guaranteed at every location, call your local shop first if a specific vegan flavor is the reason you’re going.
