Long John Silver’s: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

This is a seafood and chicken chain, and in October 2025 it doubled down by repositioning itself as a chicken and seafood restaurant. There’s no meatless main on the regular menu, so vegetarians are working from a short list of sides, sauces, and drinks.

What to order at Long John Silver’s

The Cut Corn, cooked with margarine instead of butter, stays vegan, and the Fire Roasted Southwest Corn Blend and Seasoned Green Beans round out the reliable vegan picks. A few more sides work with a small request: ask for the Baked Potato, Sweet Potato Fries, or Steamed Broccoli with no butter and they go vegan too. Ketchup, BBQ Sauce, Malt Vinegar, and Sweet Chili Sauce are all vegan as-is, and they’re worth grabbing to dress up a plate of sides.

What to watch out for

The battered fish, chicken, shrimp, and clam strips are all off the table, obviously. Less obvious traps include the Hush Puppies (milk and egg), Coleslaw (egg), and the Rice, which is cooked with chicken broth or fat and milk. Tartar, Ranch, and Baja sauces all contain egg. Even the Fresh Cut Fries are murky: some guides list them as vegan, but allergen data from other sources flags them for milk, so treat them as probably vegan but unconfirmed, and ask your location directly if dairy is a hard line for you. Onion rings are battered with milk too, vegetarian but not vegan.
