Jimmy John’s: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review
Jimmy John’s works for vegetarians, but only if you know where to look. This is a fast food sub shop built around meat, so there’s exactly one dedicated vegetarian sandwich on the menu. The good news is it’s a real sandwich, not a side salad, and a free veggie bar backs it up.
What to order at Jimmy John’s
The #6 The Veggie is the standard-menu pick, built with provolone, avocado spread, cucumber, lettuce, and tomato on your choice of bread, or as the mini Little John. Want more control? Build your own sub or order the Unwich, a lettuce wrap version, then load up at the free veggie bar. It holds lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, pickles, and Jimmy Peppers, plus oil, vinegar, yellow mustard, and oregano-basil seasoning. Add avocado spread and provolone for a vegetarian build, or skip the cheese and mayo for a fully vegan sandwich.
What to watch out for
Skip the cheese and Hellmann’s mayo if you’re vegan, since both appear on the standard Veggie by default. The Cookies and Fudge Brownie contain egg, and the Salt and Vinegar chips have milk, so check before you grab a snack. Older menu write-ups still mention alfalfa sprouts on The Veggie, but Jimmy John’s dropped those chain-wide years ago, so don’t expect them at the counter. Bread choice also swings the numbers a lot. The Unwich version of The Veggie runs far lighter in calories and sodium than the French bread or thick wheat versions, so ask for it if that matters to you.
