Jet’s Pizza: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Jet’s Pizza gives vegetarians more room to work with than you’d expect from a chain famous for square, cheese-to-the-edge Detroit-style pizza. The base dough recipe has no milk, eggs, or honey, and the standard cheeses use vegetarian rennet, so building your own pie here is a real option, not a workaround.

What to order at Jet’s Pizza

Go with Build Your Own on the deep dish, hand-tossed, thin, or gluten-free crust, then load it with any of the nine vegetable toppings: black olives, green peppers, jalapenos, mild peppers, mushrooms, onions, pineapple, red onions, and tomatoes. If you’d rather skip the decisions, the Veggie Pizza comes ready-made with green pepper, mushroom, onion, tomato, and black olive over premium mozzarella. Round out the order with Jet’s Bread or a Garden Salad, and try the Cajun crust flavor if you want some heat.

What to watch out for

The premium mozzarella, cheddar, and feta all use vegetarian rennet, but they’re still dairy, so a cheese pizza isn’t vegan. For a fully vegan pie, order the gluten-free crust, made with rice flour and canola oil, and stick to vegetable toppings and sauce with no cheese. The Romano crust flavor and Romano cheese use a generic rennet the chain hasn’t confirmed, so treat those as a check. Steer clear of the Antipasto Salad and the anchovy topping, both of which carry meat or fish.
