Indian Harvest: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Indian Harvest serves meat across half its menu, tandoori chicken and lamb chops included. But the vegetarian side isn’t an afterthought. HappyCow, the review site built specifically for vegetarian and vegan diners, flags this Boca Raton restaurant for a dedicated vegan menu with items clearly marked. That’s a rarer claim than it sounds. In this cuisine, “vegetarian-friendly” often just means the dal exists somewhere on the page.

What’s vegetarian here

Channa Masala and a yellow Dal anchor the classics, both priced the same as the chicken and lamb entrees. Not discounted as a side thought. Gobi Shahjahani goes further: cauliflower, fresh peas, and potato built into a sauce of their own, not tossed in as a vegetable side to a meat dish. Reviewers photograph this one unprompted. That tells you something about how it’s plated. Vegetable Malabar rounds out the vegan column at $29. Onion Bhajiya, crisp fried onion fritters, gives you a straightforward vegetarian starter before the entrees arrive. None of this reads as a vegetarian stand-in for a meat dish. It’s written as its own section, with its own prices.

What to order

Gobi Shahjahani at $27 is the dish to start with, the one people name in reviews instead of just calling it “the vegetable curry.” Pair it with the yellow Dal and a garlic naan. Full Indian dinner, no tandoor required. Want more heat than the standard preparation? Ask. The vegan dishes here read closer to mild-to-medium than the restaurant’s meat curries.

Order the Onion Bhajiya to start and the Gobi Shahjahani to follow, and you’ve covered both ends of the meal without a single meat dish on the table.

The kitchen situation

This is not a vegetarian restaurant. Lamb chops, chicken tikka masala, and a full tandoor operation run the rest of the menu. Ghee shows up across most Indian kitchens by default, so “vegan menu” and “dairy-free by habit” aren’t the same claim here. Ask specifically whether the vegan dishes skip butter or cream if that matters to you. Nothing published describes a separate prep line or fryer for the vegan items. Treat cross-contact as an open question, and ask your server rather than assume.

Practical notes

Indian Harvest is at 500 Via De Palmas in Boca Raton, closed Tuesdays. The rest of the week runs noon to 3 p.m. and again from 5 p.m., with Friday and Saturday dinner until 11 p.m. Entrees run $27 to $29, high for the category, and reviewers have flagged portions as small against that price more than once. Reserve ahead on a weekend. Call (561) 465-3246 to confirm hours before a special trip, since the schedule splits lunch and dinner rather than staying open through the afternoon. There’s a full bar too, so a mango lassi isn’t your only option.

Close

Plenty of Indian restaurants let vegetarians eat fine by accident, dal and naan covering for a kitchen that never thought much about it. Indian Harvest built a vegan menu on purpose. And priced it like it means it.
