Chicken Salad Chick: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Chicken Salad Chick looks like the toughest chain to crack for vegetarians since its entire menu revolves around eleven named chicken salad flavors, from Classic Carol to Kickin’ Kay Lynne. It isn’t, though. The chain sells two other scoop-style salads the exact same way, by the scoop, on lettuce, or built into a sandwich, and neither one has any meat in it.

What to order at Chicken Salad Chick

Order the Egg Salad or Pimento Cheese in place of any chicken salad flavor, including as The Chick sandwich. Round out the meal with Mac ‘n Cheese, Grape Salad, or the Seasonal Salad ordered without chicken, which works vegan with Italian or poppyseed dressing and no cheese. Fresh Fruit and the Baked Lay’s or Miss Vickie’s chips are vegan as served, so they’re safe picks if you’re avoiding dairy too. Pasta Salad and Broccoli Salad without bacon round out a full lunch plate alongside any of these.

What to watch out for

The Broccoli Salad needs a no-bacon request, and the Pasta Salad and Grape Salad both carry mayonnaise or cream cheese, so neither is vegan. Skip the Loaded Potato Soup and Chicken Tortilla Soup entirely since both contain chicken, and treat the Tomato Bisque and Broccoli Cheese Soup as a check rather than a yes, since the stock base for either one isn’t published. The Buttercream Frosted Flower Cookie is vegetarian but relies on butter and egg, so it isn’t a vegan option either.
