City, O’ City: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

City, O’ City is a fully vegetarian restaurant, bar, and coffee shop at 206 E 13th Ave in Denver’s Capitol Hill. Everything on the menu is vegan unless you choose dairy mozzarella or egg, so vegetarians can eat the whole menu and vegans nearly all of it.

What to order

Breakfast runs 9am to 2pm daily. Start with the Chicken and Waffles ($9 half, $16 full), which stacks chicken-fried cauliflower, carrot bacon and vegan chive creme fraiche on crispy waffles with bourbon maple syrup. The Infatuation singled out that dish in its December 2025 review. Burrito fans get eggs or tofu, gravy or green chili, refried beans, potatoes, and vegan cotija in the $15 Breakfast Burrito. Biscuit and gravy costs $7 on a vegan buttermilk biscuit. Weekends add brunch. On Saturday and Sunday, the menu adds the City Hash ($16), with cauliflower, broccoli, poblano, potatoes, and your pick of green chili or gravy.

Lunch and dinner go bigger. Order the Seitan Wings ($16) in BBQ or buffalo sauce, the Barbacoa Tacos ($14) with shiitake barbacoa, or the City O’ Burger ($17) with a house veggie patty and vegan American cheese. Every 14-inch pizza comes with your choice of cashew ricotta, vegan mozzarella, or dairy mozzarella. Get the Caprese ($24) with red sauce, cherry tomato, basil, and balsamic reduction. Mac and cheese ($11) mixes orecchiette with vegan cheese sauce and broccoli. Sweets come from the coffee counter: cupcakes, cookies, and soft serve.

Drinks span Colorado draft beer, wine, and cocktails such as the Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita ($10). If you skip alcohol, the bartenders make zero-proof cocktails too. Happy hour has its own menu.

The kitchen

Right at the top, the menu says “100% vegetarian kitchen.” Cooks use pasture-raised organic eggs and mozzarella made with vegetarian rennet, which matters if you avoid animal rennet. The restaurant says it doesn’t use a separate fryer for items made without gluten or nuts, so tell your server before you order if you have celiac disease or a nut allergy. Look for GF on gluten-free items, GFO on gluten-free options, and CN on dishes with nuts.

With no meat anywhere, vegetarians don’t face the usual cross-contact worries. Vegans should ask about the dairy and egg choices when they order.

Who owns it

Jennifer Byers, Hannah Kuehl, and Lauren Roberts have owned and run City, O’ City since 2015. That women-owned, family-owned, and queer-owned team also runs Watercourse Foods, a fully plant-based restaurant. Watercourse opened in 1998 in this building as one of Denver’s first vegetarian restaurants. It later moved out and City, O’ City took over the space, which is why the menu reads “since 1998.” The owners also buy their tofu from Colorado Sun Tofu, a sibling business.

Practical notes

Hours run 9am to 9pm Sunday through Thursday and 9am to 10pm Friday and Saturday. Call 303-831-6443 or book a table through the website. You can order online too. Expect one extra line on the bill. City, O’ City adds a 3% operations fee to every order and pools tips with its kitchen team.

Two weekly deals cut the bill. Service industry workers get 25% off on Tuesdays, with the code INDUSTRY online. You get 25% off every menu pizza on Wednesdays with the code PIZZAWED, though add-ons and changes cost full price.

If you want a menu with no egg or dairy at all, the owners’ Watercourse Foods is fully plant-based. Go on a weekend morning for the City Hash, or on a Wednesday night for the pizza deal and the Caprese.
