Mission Burger Co.: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Mission Burger Co. is a 100% vegan burger restaurant on the Upper Westside. The pitch is simple: it doesn’t taste like a compromise. The brisket, the cheese steak, the wings, even the Reuben skip meat and dairy. The menu reads like a normal American diner’s, not a health food special.

What’s vegan at Mission Burger Co.

Every item is plant based, from the burger patties to the smoked mushroom brisket to the cheese melted onto the fries. The concept started in Austin. Founders Mogannam and Michael Limongelli built it around comfort food a meat eater wouldn’t think twice about ordering, not a diet food marketed at vegans alone. Atlanta is the brand’s expansion beyond Texas, its second location and first outside the city where it began. The bet is that the food has to win on taste before it wins on ethics, and the crowd it’s pulling in backs that up.

What to order

The smoked mushroom brisket carries the restaurant’s reputation. Mushrooms get smoked long enough to pick up real bark and a texture that pulls apart like meat. The Brisket Burger and the Mission Burger cover the classic double patty format. The Caballero and Fiesta burgers lean into spice and toppings closer to a Tex-Mex plate than a diner one. The NYC Reuben and the Philly Cheese Steak both take a swing at East Coast sandwich standards. The Lemon Pepper Wet Wings show up often enough in reviews to count as a house specialty, not a side. A crunchwrap and a burrito round out the menu for anyone who wants a handheld option instead of a plate. Garlic fries, cheese fries and brisket fries cover the fried side. Mac and cheese or potato salad round it out if you want something less fried. For dessert, soft serve comes in vanilla, a cereal flavor, and cookies and cream, all dairy free, alongside milkshakes for anyone who wants their dessert in a cup.

Hours and location

Mission Burger Co. sits at 2065 Defoors Ferry Road NW, open every day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Indoor seating and an outdoor patio mean it works for a sit-down meal or a quick counter order. Call (404) 855-5240 with questions or to check on a to-go order. Delivery runs through the usual apps if you’d rather eat at home.

Good to know

Because the kitchen is entirely plant based, no shared grill or fryer runs animal products alongside the vegan ones. Most burger chains bolt one vegan option onto an otherwise ordinary menu. This one didn’t build it that way. That matters if you’re ordering for a group that includes strict vegans alongside people who just want a good burger. Nobody has to ask what’s safe or trust a server who might be wrong about it. Order the smoked mushroom brisket first. If that convinces a skeptic, the rest of the menu is gravy, and a milkshake or a burrito is waiting if the first round doesn’t fill you up.
