Gayatri Bhavan opened in Missouri City in late 2025. It’s the second location for a family-owned Indian vegetarian restaurant that already had a following at its original spot on Westheimer Road in Houston. What’s vegetarian at Gayatri Bhavan

Nothing on the menu contains meat. Dairy is a different story. Paneer, ghee, and yogurt turn up across the curries and chaat, so this is a vegetarian kitchen first and a vegan one only with some steering. Vegan diners eat here regularly, but the menu doesn’t mark which dishes qualify. Ask the staff to leave off dairy if you’re avoiding it. Masala dosa, idli with sambar and rasam, and vegetable upma are naturally dairy-free or close to it. Those are the easiest vegan starting point.

Signature dishes to order

South Indian food is the strength here. Crisp masala dosa comes filled with spiced potato. Steamed idli arrives with sambar and coconut chutney. Medhu vada, the doughnut-shaped lentil fritter, is a staple of any South Indian breakfast menu. Chole batura and aloo samosa round out the North Indian side. Between the two regional styles, a table of four could order five dishes and not repeat a flavor profile. That range is what separates a Bhavan-style restaurant from a single-region Indian spot, and it’s the same formula that built a following at the original Westheimer location.

Hours run Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 11am-2pm and 4pm-9:30pm. Friday and Saturday stretch 11am-10pm, and Sunday runs 11am-9:30pm, with Tuesdays off. You’ll find it at 7022 Highway 6, Suite 500, in a strip mall on the Missouri City side of the highway, an easy stop coming from Sugar Land. This is a young location, open less than a year as of this writing. Its online review base is thinner than the original Westheimer restaurant’s. Early reviews are strongly positive, but a newer kitchen has less of a track record to lean on than an established spot does. Vegan items aren’t labeled, so don’t assume a dish is dairy-free just because it looks like it. Ask the counter staff before you order, every time. Is Gayatri Bhavan worth it?

For vegetarians in the Missouri City and Sugar Land area, yes. A dedicated vegetarian kitchen serving both North and South Indian food is not common that far southwest of central Houston. Early word from customers backs up the food quality. Vegans can eat here too, they just need to ask more questions at the counter than a menu that spells it out would require. Fort Bend County has grown fast over the last decade, and a second location this soon after the first suggests the owners are betting the demand is real.
