My Vegan: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review
My Vegan serves fully plant-based Thai fusion food from two Los Angeles-area locations, one on Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena and a second a few miles away in Eagle Rock. Order the Vegan Pad Thai Signature ($18.50), built from rice noodles, eggplant, kale, peanuts, and organic tofu in a tamarind-forward sauce, or the Yellow Curry Noodle ($17), a coconut curry broth over soy chicken and noodles topped with fried red onion and cilantro. Regulars also point to the RIPP ($18), short for Rest In Peace Porky, a tangy vegan short rib plate served with broccoli, baby carrots, and coleslaw. For something lighter, the Papaya Salad ($14.50) nails the sour-sweet-spicy balance of the Thai original with shredded green papaya, peanut, and Thai chili. Breakfast runs all day too, with pancake plates and an Impossible sausage muffin for anyone who wants brunch instead of curry.
Every dish on the menu is vegan, so there’s no cross-contamination risk and nothing to flag as safe versus unsafe. Soy chicken, soy beef, soy shrimp, soy fish, Impossible meat, and tofu stand in for the real thing throughout the kitchen, and the restaurant says it skips MSG and GMOs across the board. That mock-meat range shows up in a menu that runs past 100 items: curries in red, green, yellow, and pineapple versions, a full noodle lineup with pad see ew and pad woon sen, five styles of fried rice, six wraps, nine burger variations, and that all-day breakfast section. According to the restaurant’s own account, the concept started with a group of friends who spent decades refining vegan recipes with a mission to promote a plant-based diet and support animal welfare. Reviewers back up the ambition. HappyCow has it at 4.5 out of 5 across 87 reviews, and the Pasadena location alone has pulled in well over a thousand Yelp reviews. One regular called it food that even non-vegans like, though at least one review found it bland, so expect some variation dish to dish.
Prices run moderate for the area. Appetizers run $8 to $15, and most curries, noodles, and house specialty plates land between $15.50 and $18.50. A meal for two with drinks lands somewhere around $45 to $55 before tip. Reservations don’t appear to be part of the picture, so plan on walk-in seating, especially during the dinner rush. Catering and delivery both run through the restaurant too, with Uber Eats and Postmates listed as options. Good for a casual weeknight dinner, a vegan-curious friend group, or takeout when cooking isn’t happening. Seating is unpretentious storefront-style, nothing fancy, which fits the comfort-food menu.
Hours run daily from 11am to 3:30pm and again from 4:30pm to 9pm, with that midafternoon gap for kitchen turnover. Both locations share the same menu and pricing, so pick whichever one is closer. My Vegan has built a loyal following in Pasadena and Eagle Rock, and the food backs it up: bright curries, a pad thai worth the drive, and enough mock-meat variety to satisfy someone missing chicken wings without a single animal product in the building.
