Whataburger: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Whataburger doesn’t sell a veggie burger or a plant-based patty, and there’s no official vegan menu. You build your meal here from sides, salads, breakfast items, and a custom bun order instead, which works better than it sounds.

What to order at Whataburger

Ask for the classic bun, which is free of milk and egg, and load it with grilled onions, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, and pickles for a fully vegan sandwich. Apple slices are vegan as served, and the Cobb Salad works vegetarian once you pull the bacon and egg. For breakfast, order the egg and cheese with no meat if you eat dairy and egg. Mustard and spicy ketchup are your safest condiments, and you can add avocado where it’s carried.

What to watch out for

The French fries and hash brown sticks are vegan by recipe, but they share a fryer, so that’s a separate issue if cross-contact matters to you. Onion rings contain egg, milk, and whey, so skip those if you’re vegan. Skip the brioche bun and Texas Toast too, since the brioche carries a milk-allergen flag and typically has egg and butter. The biscuit, pancakes, cinnamon roll, fried pies, and chocolate chunk cookie all contain dairy and egg, and most of the creamy sauces and dressings do too, so stick with black coffee, unsweet tea, or soft drinks to keep things simple.
