Peking Duck House: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Peking Duck House in Pompano Beach isn’t a vegetarian restaurant. Its signature dish is a whole duck, $38 for a half and $75 for a full one. Much of the menu runs on beef, pork, and seafood. But its “Authentic” and “Tofu & Vegetable” sections give a vegetarian a real dinner to build, not a side dish to settle for while everyone else orders the duck.

What’s vegetarian here

The Tofu & Vegetable section lists Baby Bok Choy with garlic, Eggplant with garlic sauce, and Dry Sauteed String Beans, each $15 to $16. Skip the Mopo Tofu on that same list. It’s built on ground pork, and the menu says so. More useful is the “Authentic” section: Asian Curry, Hunan Style, Cashew Nuts, Garlic Sauce, Kung Pao, and Szechuan Style, all build-your-own. Choice of fried tofu, chicken, pork, or vegetables, all $17 regardless of pick. Noodle Stir works the same way across Lo Mein, Mei Fun, Chow Ho Fun, Pad Thai, Singapore Mei Fun, and Udon. Vegetable is a standard protein choice there, no upcharge. Vegetable Spring Rolls and a Vegetable Gyoza round out the appetizers and dim sum list.

What to order

Order the Kung Pao or Szechuan Style with tofu from the Authentic section. Both come loaded with peanuts or dried chili. Neither reads like a consolation prize next to the meat versions. Add Baby Bok Choy with garlic on the side, and a Vegetable Lo Mein if you want noodles too. None of this carries a “vegetarian” label on the printed menu. You pick the protein the way anyone else does, which means reading the choice line at the top of each section instead of hunting for a marked-off column.

Most of the appetizer list runs on meat and seafood, Crispy Calamari and BBQ Spare Ribs among them, so the Vegetable Spring Roll and Vegetable Gyoza are really the only starters built for a vegetarian table. Order both if you’re starting a meal here.

The kitchen situation

This is a full-service Chinese kitchen built around a wok line that also cooks Peking duck, beef, pork, and seafood all day long. The vegetable and tofu dishes run through the same equipment as everything else. Nothing published describes a separate wok, fryer, or oil reserved for meat-free orders. If shared surfaces are a hard line for you, call ahead to (954) 946-0436 and ask directly. The menu itself won’t answer that question either way.

Practical notes

Peking Duck House sits at 1200 E Atlantic Blvd in Pompano Beach, open daily 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. A lunch special runs Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., pairing a discounted entree with soup and rice. Prices run from $13.95 at lunch up to $40 for the stir-fried filet mignon, with most vegetable and noodle dishes landing under $20. Delivery runs through DoorDash and Uber Eats if you’d rather eat at home than sit down.

Close

Nobody walks into a restaurant named for its duck expecting a vegetarian destination. But the build-your-own format here means you order with confidence. No need to ask the kitchen to improvise something off the books.
