Manjay Restaurant is a Caribbean counter in Doral that names a Vegan Bowl and a Vegan Roti right on its regular menu, alongside a full vegan sides list, even though most of the menu runs on pork, chicken, and shrimp.
Manjay Restaurant: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review
Manjay Restaurant serves Haitian, Cuban, and Jamaican food from a storefront in Doral. It runs a Vegan Bowl and a Vegan Roti right on the regular menu, named exactly that. No improvising required. Order either one and you get a full vegan meal, not sides pushed together and called dinner.
What’s vegetarian here
The Vegan Bowl is built around rice, a choice of red beans and rice or black beans, and a vegetable component that leans on plantains, root vegetables, and greens in coconut curry sauce. The Vegan Roti wraps a similar filling in flatbread, Caribbean style. Think burrito, not the Indian dish the name borrows from. Akra opens the menu as a vegan starter, a Haitian malanga fritter, crisp outside and soft in the middle. Sides carry real weight here too. Red beans and rice, white rice, black beans, plantain fries, boniato fries, tostones, maduros, and a curried vegetable side are all vegan, plus an avocado and tomato salad. Stack three or four next to the Vegan Bowl and the plate looks like everyone else’s. Not a special order.
What to order
Start with the Vegan Roti if you want something to eat with your hands. Pick the Vegan Bowl if you want rice anchoring the plate. Add tostones on the side, twice-fried green plantains, salted. They do the job fries do at a burger counter, something crunchy against the softer textures. Skip Griyo, Vaca Frita, and the whole Honey Jerk lineup. Pork, chicken, shrimp. The menu doesn’t hide it.
The kitchen situation
Manjay is not a vegan or vegetarian restaurant. Griyo, which is fried pork, Honey Jerk Chicken, Coco Loco Shrimp, and Caribbean Steak all come off the same line as the Vegan Bowl. Fryers and grills almost certainly serve every protein on the menu, oil included. Nothing on the site or the printed menu describes a dedicated vegan station or a separate fryer. Call the Doral location directly if cross-contact matters to you, and ask before you order.
Catering trays lean almost entirely on the protein-based combos, so if you’re ordering for a group with vegan guests, ask ahead about building a vegan tray rather than assuming one is already on the standard list.
Practical notes
Manjay sits at 2000 NW 87th Ave, Suite 3, in Doral, open daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. It’s counter-forward and casual, built around a $12 meal-plate format rather than a sit-down dinner. Dine-in, takeout, delivery, and catering trays are all available. A second location runs in Miami’s Citadel food hall on different hours, but the Doral spot is the one covered here, since the menu format shifts slightly between the two. Expect a lunch rush from the office parks nearby on weekdays. Call (305) 209-5043 if you’d rather skip the line.
Close
Most Caribbean restaurants in South Florida treat vegan as a special request whispered to a server. Manjay put it on the menu with its own name. Twice, in plain type, next to everything else.
