Zenna: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review
Zenna is a Thai and Japanese fusion restaurant in Plano, open every night until 3am. Vegetarians won’t find a separate menu, but they’ll eat well here. Order the Green Curry or Yellow Curry with tofu and vegetables in place of meat. Or try the Combination Vegetables entree, a stir-fry built entirely around produce, no meat substitution needed. Panang Curry and Pineapple Curry take the same tofu swap, and the kitchen doesn’t charge extra for it. Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles both switch to a tofu-and-vegetable version without any fuss.
Start with Edamame or Crispy Spring Rolls, both meat-free as served. Vegetable Soup and the Tom-Kha coconut soup, ordered with the veg option, make a good light course too. The Steamed Vegetables side, plain and cheap, adds bulk without another wok dish. Skip the Eel Roll and Crab Meat Dynamite Roll since this sushi bar leans hard into fish and shellfish. Order the Cucumber Roll or Futomaki Roll instead. Neither will impress a sushi purist, but both are honest vegetarian picks on an otherwise fish-heavy menu.
This is a full omnivore kitchen, not a vegetarian-friendly niche spot. Pork ribs, beef, chicken, shrimp, calamari, salmon, and eel all show up regularly. The wok station and the sushi bar handle meat and seafood right next to the vegetable dishes. Nothing on the printed menu carries a vegetarian or vegan symbol. You get the tofu swap by asking, not by picking from a marked section. Thai cooking often leans on fish sauce for seasoning, so a strict vegetarian should confirm the sauce base on curries and noodles, not just the protein. That’s fine if you’re a flexible vegetarian, less fine if you need a hard guarantee against cross-contact.
Prices run moderate for the Dallas suburbs. It sits on North Central Expressway, an easy stop from Plano, Richardson, and North Dallas. Curries are $13.50 each, noodle and rice dishes run $13 to $15, appetizers $5 to $7, and rolls $6 to $19 depending on how much crab and eel go into them. A vegetarian dinner here, curry plus rice or a loaded noodle dish, runs $15 to $20 a person before drinks. Reservations aren’t part of the picture for casual dining. Walk in, or order ahead online for pickup and delivery.
Zenna’s owners once ran locations in North Dallas and downtown Dallas too. Both closed. Plano is the only Zenna left standing, and reviews from just weeks ago confirm it’s open and still serving. A few reviewers mention slower service when the place gets busy, so weekday lunch is the safer bet if you’re in a hurry. That kind of late-night reach makes this a rare vegetarian-friendly option after midnight in this part of Texas.
Good for a mixed table where one person eats vegetarian and everyone else wants Thai comfort food or a sushi platter. Add tofu to the Green Curry, throw in a side of steamed vegetables, and that’s a filling, cheap dinner the kitchen makes without blinking. It won’t be a vegan showcase, but it’s an honest, flexible option for anyone who wants real food, not a garnished side salad.
