Slim Chickens: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review
Slim Chickens is more vegetarian-friendly than you’d expect from a fried chicken chain. The sides menu carries the vegetarian meal here, and Slim Chickens backs that up with a dedicated Veggie Plate built entirely from sides, no chicken required. That’s rare among chicken chains, and it makes Slim Chickens a workable stop even if you’re eating with a group that wants wings.
What to order at Slim Chickens
Build the Veggie Plate around mac and cheese, coleslaw, and corn on the cob. That combination gives you dairy protein from the mac, crunch from the slaw, and a starchy side from the corn. Add a side salad without dressing if you want something vegan, or potato salad and Texas toast if dairy and egg are fine. These non-fried sides never touch the fryer, so you’re not dealing with chicken cross-contact on any of them.
What to watch out for
The fried sides are where it gets complicated. Fried okra, fried pickles, fried mushrooms, and tater tots use soybean oil, which is plant-based on its own, but that oil is shared with chicken tenders and wings in the same fryer. Skip them if cross-contact is a dealbreaker. Corn on the cob and coleslaw both come with butter or egg-based dressing by default, so ask for those left off if you’re vegan. Most of the rest of the menu, the tenders, wings, and sandwiches, is off the table entirely.
