Pieology: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Pieology makes meatless eating simple because the whole menu is built around a build-your-own pizza. You pick the crust, sauce, cheese, and every topping yourself, so a fully loaded vegetarian pie costs the same as a plain cheese one.

What to order at Pieology

Start with the Original Thin or PieRise crust, add a house-made sauce like the Red or Sunflower-Olive Oil, then choose regular mozzarella or the Daiya vegan mozzarella at no upcharge. Load up on the vegetable toppings, which run long: black olives, mushrooms, red onions, green peppers, artichokes, garlic, spinach, and more. If you want protein, add the plant-based “beef” meatballs or spicy sausage rounds, or the Gardein diced chicken for a dollar more.

What to watch out for

A few crusts and sauces aren’t vegan even though the pizza looks meat-free. The Original Thin, PieRise, and cauliflower crusts all use whey or cheese in the dough, and the Alfredo, Ranch, and Nut-Free Pesto sauces contain milk. The Margherita and Veggie Pesto pizzas are vegetarian but not vegan for the same reason. Availability of the plant-based meatballs and sausage rounds varies by location, so confirm before you order if you’re vegan. Also worth knowing: the chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2025 and has shrunk to around 45 locations, mostly in California, so check that your local store is still open.
