True Food Kitchen: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

True Food Kitchen is one of the easiest chains in the country for vegetarians, since the menu was designed around plants from the start and clearly labels which dishes are vegan and gluten-free.

What to order at True Food Kitchen

Start with the Charred Cauliflower, served with harissa tahini, medjool date, dill, mint, and pistachio, or the Mediterranean Hummus, both vegan as served. The Ancient Grains Bowl, Teriyaki Quinoa Bowl, and Korean Noodle Bowl anchor the entree side and are all vegan too. If you want something closer to comfort food, the Vegan Double Cheeseburger, the Unbeetable Burger, or the T.L.T., built on tempeh, lettuce, and tomato, all work. Close with the Chia Seed Pudding for a vegan dessert, or start with the edamame and kale guacamole.

What to watch out for

The menu rotates by season, so a few dishes come and go through the year, treat anything marked Check on your visit as a quick question for your server. The Organic Tuscan Kale Salad is vegetarian but carries parmesan by default, so ask for it without cheese if you want it vegan. Margherita-style cheese pizzas and the Spinach and Mushroom Pizza both depend on dairy cheese that varies by location. Cookies and ice cream are vegetarian but not vegan, since the ice cream is dairy-based.
