Charleys: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Charleys gives you exactly one real vegetarian sandwich, the Veggie Delight, since the rest of the menu is built on steak, chicken, and wings. That’s a short list for a chain this size, but the Veggie Delight is a genuine sandwich with real protein and fiber, not a workaround, so a vegetarian can still walk out full.

What to order at Charleys

Order the Veggie Delight: grilled mushrooms, onions, and green peppers piled onto a roll with provolone, Swiss, and shredded cheddar, finished with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Ask for double vegetables cooked in the sweet teriyaki sauce as a free upgrade. Natural-cut French fries are vegan by ingredient, and loaded fries work too if you order them without bacon. Round out the order with a real-fruit lemonade in original, strawberry, blueberry, or peach.

What to watch out for

The fries share a fryer with chicken tenders and wings, so they’re a check rather than an automatic yes if cross-contact matters to you. The Veggie Delight isn’t vegan, since the roll contains egg and it comes dressed with mayo. Fried dough shares that same fryer and contains egg too. Beyond the Veggie Delight and fries, the rest of the board, cheesesteaks, chicken tenders, and wings, is entirely meat, with no standing vegetarian substitute on the regular menu.
