LongHorn Steakhouse: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

LongHorn Steakhouse doesn’t pretend to be vegetarian-friendly. This is a steak-and-ribs chain with no veggie burger, no plant-based patty, and no dedicated vegan menu. Eating here as a vegetarian means working the edges of the menu, mostly sides and a stripped-down salad, rather than ordering an actual entree.

What to order at LongHorn Steakhouse

The Mixed Greens or House Salad is your most flexible pick. Order it without cheese or croutons and it’s vegan, or leave those on and it stays vegetarian. A Plain Baked Potato or Sweet Potato with no butter, sour cream, or bacon is vegan as ordered, and the Seasoned Rice Pilaf is naturally plant-based. Steamed broccoli and asparagus work too, but only once you ask for them without the default butter.

What to watch out for

Nearly every vegetable at LongHorn arrives buttered by default, so you have to ask for it plain every time. The Steakhouse Mac & Cheese and Mashed Potatoes both carry dairy, and every soup on the menu contains dairy too. Fresh-Baked Bread is likely vegetarian, but its vegan status is disputed, so ask before counting on it. Order the Crispy Brussels Sprouts or Fire-Grilled Corn plain and confirm the prep, since both can arrive finished with butter or honey butter you didn’t ask for. With no meatless main course anywhere on the menu, plan on a meal built entirely from sides and a modified salad.
