Sweetgreen: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review
Sweetgreen’s whole menu runs on vegetables, beans, and grains, so vegetarians get a real meal here instead of a compromise. One bowl, the Shroomami, is fully vegan exactly as it’s served, no edits needed. The company isn’t owned by a fast-food conglomerate either, and that shows in how much attention the produce side of the menu gets, with more than 250 stores now spread across two dozen states.
What to order at Sweetgreen
Start with the Shroomami, warm roasted sesame tofu and portobello mushrooms over wild rice with kale, cabbage, and a miso-sesame-ginger dressing. The Hummus Crunch Salad is vegetarian as listed and turns vegan the moment you skip the cheese. You can also build a Harvest Bowl, Crispy Rice Bowl, or Guacamole Greens by pulling the meat and adding tofu or chickpeas with a vegan dressing. Ripple Fries with Pickle Ketchup are vegan too, and Hummus with rosemary focaccia makes a solid vegan side if you want something besides a bowl.
What to watch out for
The Super Green Goddess Salad comes with hard-boiled egg and a dairy-based Green Goddess ranch, so drop both if you’re vegan. Any Caesar-based salad or the Buffalo Chicken build uses a dressing with anchovy, which rules it out for vegetarians too. Garlic Aioli on the fries contains egg, so stick with Pickle Ketchup instead. The goat cheese, feta, and parmesan options are vegetarian, but Sweetgreen hasn’t confirmed the rennet source, so ask in-store if that matters to you.
