Baja Fresh: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review
Baja Fresh’s fresh-ingredients approach works in vegetarians’ favor. Nearly every burrito, bowl, salad, and platter on the menu can be built without meat, using a ‘protein’ swap of veggies, beans, cheese, or the plant-based Impossible Burger. Nothing here carries a formal vegetarian label, but the self-serve salsa bar and made-to-order format make it easy to build a real meal instead of picking around one.
What to order at Baja Fresh
The Veggie Burrito is the dedicated vegetarian build, with sautéed peppers and onions, cheddar-jack cheese, pico de gallo, and romaine, ask to skip the cheese and sour cream for a vegan version. The Fuego Burrito and Impossible Bowl swap in the plant-based Impossible Burger. For something lighter, the Baja Ensalada or Chili Lime Salad without protein, or the Rice & Beans Platter, all work well. Guacamole and chips or salsa and chips are safely vegan sides.
What to watch out for
Most builds default to shredded cheese and sour cream, so you’ll need to ask for both on the side or left off entirely if you’re avoiding dairy. The Queso adds cheese to chips or nachos, which rules it out for vegans. Cotija cheese shows up on the Baja Ensalada, Chili Lime Salad, and veggie fajitas by default, so flag it when you order. The Churro contains eggs and dairy, so skip it if you’re staying vegan.
