Raising Cane’s: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Raising Cane’s built its name on chicken fingers, and the menu still reflects that single-minded focus decades later. There’s no veggie burger, no plant-based finger, and no meatless entree anywhere on the board. Vegetarians and vegans are working with sides and drinks only, which makes this one of the thinnest chains in this guide for meat-free eating. If you’re eating with a group here, plan on this being a fries-and-drink stop rather than a full meal.

What to order at Raising Cane’s

Crinkle Cut Fries are your anchor, made from potatoes, soybean or canola oil, and salt, with no lard or beef tallow involved, a real point in Cane’s favor compared with chains that fry in tallow. Texas Toast is vegetarian, though the bread and butter contain milk. For drinks, Unsweetened Iced Tea, Sweet Tea, Lemonade, and Apple Juice are all vegan, and Ketchup and Louisiana Hot Sauce packets are safe additions to the fries.

What to watch out for

Coleslaw uses an egg-based mayonnaise, so it’s off the table for vegans and for any vegetarian who avoids eggs. Cane’s Sauce contains both egg and fish, making it one of the least obvious non-vegetarian items on the menu. The fries run through a shared fryer, so ask about that if cross-contact is a concern, and don’t expect a salad, wrap, or breakfast menu to fall back on here.
