Denny’s: What’s Vegetarian Editorial Review

Denny’s makes vegetarian easy because the options run through the whole all-day menu, not just one corner of it. Build a meatless Grand Slam, order the real veggie burger, or keep things simple with pancakes, hash browns, and a salad. Just watch out for one thing before you order: the grill is seasoned with bacon. This is one of the more accommodating diners on this list, precisely because breakfast gives you so many building blocks to work with.

What to order at Denny’s

The Veggie Burger, ordered without cheese and mayo, is vegan as listed. The Plant-Based Pancake Slam pairs vegan pancakes with seasonal fruit and hash browns for one of the easiest fully plant-based meals on the menu. For breakfast, build your own Grand Slam from pancakes, hash browns, English muffins, and fruit, skipping the meat add-ons. The Santa Fe Skillet works too, ordered without chorizo, egg, and cheese.

What to watch out for

Denny’s seasons its grill with bacon, worth knowing if you’re strict about cross-contact on anything cooked there, including eggs and hash browns. The Loaded Veggie Omelette and Brioche French Toast are both vegetarian, not vegan, since the omelette carries cheese and the French toast is dipped in an egg-and-milk batter. Mashed potatoes and gravy aren’t vegan either, the gravy is dairy-based. Oatmeal and grits go vegan if you ask for them made with water instead of milk, and the garden salad is vegan with balsamic vinaigrette.
